Best Way To Get Acrylic Nails Off Yourself

How to Remove Acrylic Nails at Home: A Step-by-Step Guide

Materials You'll Need:

  • Coarse grit nail file
  • Pure acetone
  • Nail clippers
  • Cotton pads
  • Tin foil or a nail bowl

Step 1: Shorten the Nails

Using nail clippers, trim your acrylic nails as short as possible without cutting into your natural nails.

Step 2: File Down the Acrylic

Use a coarse grit nail file to thin down the acrylic nails significantly. This will help the acetone penetrate the acrylic more effectively.

Step 3: Soak in Acetone

Soak a cotton pad in pure acetone and place it on top of the acrylic nail. Wrap a piece of tin foil or the nail bowl around your finger to hold the cotton pad in place.

Step 4: Wait 15-20 Minutes

Let the acetone sit for 15-20 minutes. The acrylic should start to soften and dissolve.

Step 5: Remove the Cotton Pads and Acrylic

Once the acrylic is soft, gently remove the cotton pads. Use the nail clippers or your fingers to peel off the dissolved acrylic.

Step 6: Buff and Smooth

Use a nail file or buffer to smooth out any remaining acrylic residue on your natural nails.

Tips for Safe and Effective Removal:

  • Wear gloves to protect your hands from acetone.
  • Avoid getting acetone on your skin.
  • Keep the area well-ventilated.
  • If your skin starts to burn or tingle, stop using acetone and rinse with water.
  • Do not reuse acetone-soaked cotton pads.
  • Avoid over-filing your natural nails.
  • Moisturize your nails after removing the acrylic to prevent dryness.
