David Lynch May Be Homebound But He's Never Leaving Hollywood

Director Confined To Home Due To Ill Health

Emphysema Diagnosis Forces Lynch To Retire From Directing

American filmmaker David Lynch has revealed he can no longer direct movies in person as he's confined to his home due to ill health.

The Twin Peaks creator, 77, was diagnosed with emphysema, a lung condition that causes shortness of breath, and said he will most likely retire from directing.

"I can't leave the house," Lynch told The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm on oxygen 24 hours a day. I can't walk around. I can't do anything."

Despite his health issues, Lynch said he's still working on projects, including a new book and a possible TV series.

"I'm still writing and I'm still developing ideas," he said. "I'm just not able to do it in the same way I used to."

Lynch is known for his surreal and often disturbing films, including Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, and Mulholland Drive.

He also directed the 1984 sci-fi epic Dune, which was a critical and commercial failure.

However, Lynch said he's proud of the film and believes it's more entertaining than the new sci-fi epic of the same name.

"I think my Dune is more entertaining," he said. "It's more emotional. It's more human."
